Kirk Richardson

Kirk had just turned eight when Oscar died and was weeks away from his baptism. He was unable to have his Dad perform that ordinance for him, but his father’s good friend, Gordon Peterson, stood in his place. Kirk graduated from Meridian High School in Idaho in 1983 and then served a mission in Charlotte, NC. He attended Ricks College. He met his wife Marilyn Prince while working in Salt Lake City, and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple. They have four sons and two daughters: Jessica Smith (Aaron), Spencer (Krystin), Benson LaVon (Sadie), Angeline Heindel (Spencer), Allen, and Taylor. Kirk works as an outside sales representative for Platt Electric Supply. They have lived in Sugarhouse, UT, Green River, WY, Nampa, ID, Weiser, ID, and now South Jordan, UT. They have six grandchildren and 3 more coming in 2023.

Memories

*I remember very vividly the accident and the events as they happened. My dad’s love, concern and heroism for his daughter has always been a positive example in my life.
*I remember when we lived on 3rd East he was rototilling a neighbors garden spot and while fixing the rubber drive belt it took his fingernail off.  He always joked that I ran faster than he did back to the house.
*I remember deer hunting with him below the “B”.   He and whoever was with us carried the deer out on their shoulders with its legs tied over a wooden stick.  I was very proud as we walked past the Bott’s house to the truck.
*I remember he purchased the small house next to ours on 3rd East to establish a small school to teach mentally challenged children.
*Smells that trigger powerful memories of my dad are:
Fiberglass resin,  I think of the wooden boat he was repairing.
Corn silage of the dairy farm we owned in Elwood
Diesel fumes from the tractor on the dairy farm
Molasses he would get from the beet factory to put on the hay.
Dairy cow manure
*It was amazing to me he would awake at 4am to milk the small dairy herd in Elwood, get to the school for teaching, come home after wrestling practice to milk the cows.

* I’ve had two very close,  personal experiences with my father since his death and know that he is very aware and involved with his family.
